New Year, New Start

Happy New Year to all the dieters out there.

Today is the start of a brand new year and a chance to wipe the slate clean, forget all past failures (except to learn from those mistakes) and to make a new beginning.

Yesterday, I listed my resolutions for 2009 and today I’m going to share how I’m going to break them down into manageable monthly, weekly and daily goals. That way, one minor slip up isn’t going to set me right back and put me off reaching my overall resolution of getting down to 146-150lbs and getting fit.

Hitting each daily, weekly and monthly goal will give me a real sense of achievement. To keep myself motivated, I will also implement a reward system, which will spur me on in my efforts to lose weight.

My goal for January is to lose 5-7lbs.

My weekly goals are to go to the gym at least three times each week, and to lose 1-2lbs per week.

On a daily basis, I aim to make sensible food choices and to eat five portions of fruit and vegetables each day. I will also try to get at least 30 minutes of exercise each day, whether that is at the gym or a brisk walk to the shops and back.

The reward for achieving my daily goals will be feeling so much better in myself – these goals have their own rewards. For hitting my weekly exercise and weight loss targets, I will treat myself to a DIY pedicure, manicure or other beauty treatment. If I manage to lose 7lbs in January, I will treat myself to a new pair of jeans – a massive incentive for me at the moment!

At the end of each month, I will assess how I have done with the goals I have set myself and set new ones for the following month.

I’d love to hear what action you are taking to keep your own resolutions this year.
