Let’s Get Cooking

Published by Sarah at 6:54 pm under Personal Edit This

Since deciding that I need to lose weight, I’ve become a lot more concerned about knowing what I’m actually eating.

I’ve never really been one for making home cooked-meals, always preferring convenience above all else. Now that I’m home most days, I have the time to cook a dinner for my boyfriend and myself each night and I know that he enjoys having a hot meal to come home to. It makes sense for me, as I know exactly what’s going into each dish and so have more control over the things I’m eating.

I have a very limited repertoire of dishes to make, though, which means that after a couple of weeks it has started to get bit repetitive!

So, I’ve decided to branch out a bit and try some new recipes. How exciting!?! Tonight, I made my first ever Lancashire Hotpot. Granted, it could probably do with a bit of work, but it was edible and we both enjoyed it. A couple of nights ago, I made an attempt at home-made, low-fat oven chips and they were delicious!

I’m really starting to enjoy cooking now and can’t wait to try out some more new recipes. There’s one for a carrot cake that I’m itching to have a go at – I just daren’t, as I’ll probably eat the whole thing with a giant cup of coffee!

Jan, thanks for stopping by and commenting. You’re right about it being more economical, particularly as it can use up all those cupboard items that would otherwise go to waste. It’s certainly the right time of year to be experimenting with stews and casseroles - coming in from the cold to a great big steaming bowl of stew is just heaven!

Thanks for the suggestion about the chips, too - they sound great.

I’ve been doing the samething for cooking since I haven’t been working in awhile and let me tell you it’s more work then popping those preservative microwave dinners that’s for sure LOL. Been trying to be creative and make sure we don’t get tired of eating. I like kraft and campbells receipes they have great sites and coupons!

    Hi Tina

Anywhere that has free recipes is always welcome, as you can usually tailor them to fit your family’s own specific tastes and experiment to come up with new things.

It certainly can be a lot of work compared to convenience meals - but isn’t it worth it when you taste it? And it’s so much more reassuring to know exactly what you’re sitting down to eat, too.

I hope you enjoy trying out new meal ideas for your family.
